Dream Season Continues for Brown at Bowman Gray

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Tim Brown thought his 2008 season was a dream come true – but it now pales in comparison to the astounding performances he’s turning in this season.
            Brown, a resident of Rural Hall, grabbed seven wins in 2008. But on Friday, he claimed his eighth checkered flag in the 2012 Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series season - besting his personal record. The last driver to win eight races during a single season was Frank Fleming in 1988.
            “What a season we’re having,” said Brown. “We’re just trying to be like a well-oiled machine.”
            But the Friday victory during the first of two 50-lappers was far from an easy accomplishment for Brown. Merely arriving at the track was difficult for his crew this week. “Last week we got torn up pretty good there on the backstretch going for the lead,” said Brown. “It didn’t look that bad until we got it back to the shop, took it apart – and it was torn up pretty badly.”
            As the green flag waved in the first 50-lapper, Tim Brown fought his way forward, eventually grabbing the lead away from Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem with an outside-row challenge. “I just didn’t get a good bite off of turn two, and Tim got by me,” said Jonathan Brown.

            Jonathan Brown then set his aim on taking the lead back from Tim Brown. The two collided as they struggled for the top spot. But the #83 of Tim Brown was able to hang on, and the #22 of Jonathan Brown began to fall back through the field.
            “Once I got to the outside, I got too high, got the loose stuff on my right rear - and I just went backwards from there. There was just no grip on the outside like there normally is,” said Jonathan Brown.
            Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg finished in second, with Danny Bohn of Huntersville coming in third.
            The “Madhouse Scramble” sent Burt Myers of Walnut Cove to the pole for the start of the second race. The defending champion was looking for a chance to turn around the poor luck that he’s had for the last few events, but his car didn’t want to cooperate at first.
            “We got here and the car was out-of-shape loose. We made an adjustment and the car was really tight. We stunk in qualifying; we made an adjustment. It was tight in the first race; we made another adjustment,” said Myers.
            Whatever Burt and crew did for the second race worked, and Myers said the effects were powerful. “I could drive the car like I could at the beginning of the year – the car was awesome,” said Myers.
           Myers defended his lead against Ronnie Clifton of Walkertown and repeated challenges from Jonathan Brown. “I was riding to see how much I had and how much I had left – I could go when I needed to,” said Myers.

            But when Danny Bohn of Huntersville moved up to try his chances at grabbing the lead from the outside, he rubbed with Myers, sending Myers spinning. “I’m disappointed with what happened tonight, but I’m really ecstatic about how good my car was in that second race,” said Myers.
            “It was just tight racing,” said Bohn. “We came off the corner, touched wheels, and he ended up losing his car.”
            Bohn protected his lead from Tim Brown and claimed the checkered for the second week in a row. Tim Brown and Joseph Brown of Winston-Salem finished second and third.
            Zack Staley of Lexington won the 15-lapper for the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series. Shane Tuttle of Winston-Salem finished in second, with Billy Cameron Jr. of Salibsury taking third.
            In the Legends Pro Division, Evan Swilling of Cohutta, GA grabbed the checkered. Daniel Coltrane of Trinity, NC claimed the win in the Legends Master Division. Robert Hyer of South Amboy, NJ won the race for  the Legends Semi-Pro Division, and Ryan Shattock of Islamorada, FL brought home the victory in the Legends Young Lions Division.
            Alton Clark of Newnan, GA won in the Bandoleros Outlaws Division, with Kodie Connor of Kannapolis, NC claiming the checkered in the Bandoleros Bandits Division.
