Brown and Myers Break Even at Bowman Gray
(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) It was a clash of the titans on Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium.
Tim Brown of Rural Hall grabbed the pole position for the GMAC Insurance Modified Series. Starting right beside him on the outside front row was Defending Champion Burt Myers of Walnut Cove.
Brown shot out into the lead and held on to win, although Myers gave a few good shots to his rear bumper.
The two swapped places in the second race, with Myers finishing one position ahead of Brown. The points gap between the two stays the same: Myers still leads, 28 points ahead of Brown. “We didn’t gain any points on Burt, but we didn’t lose any either,” said Brown about the night.
But the #83 team is determined to do whatever they can to make 2011 their record-breaking ninth championship. “I’m still here racing, aren’t I?” joked Brown.
Chris Fleming of Mount Airy continues his strong season by maintaining his third place ranking in the points standings. Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem and Jason Myers of Walnut Cove are right behind in fourth and fifth.
In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, points leader Kyle Edwards of King gets involved in a massive wreck in the second race, cutting down his points lead from 22 points to only 7. Robbie Brewer was able to take advantage of the situation, finishing second and third to stay just out of the points lead but moving closer to passing Edwards.
Tommy Neal of Walkertown maintains his third place spot on the points ladder. Luke Fleming of Mount Airy and Bryant Robertson of Lexington had a run-in with each other that got tempers flaring. Fleming comes out ahead in the confrontation, passing Robertson to take over fourth in the points. Robertson drops down to fifth.
John McNeal of Winston-Salem finished second on Saturday in the 20-lapper for the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. McNeal adds to his points lead, although Darren Cotner of King finished right behind him to stay on his heels in the points.
Matt Cotner of Rural Hall falls down from second in the points to fourth after sitting out a week due to a racing suspension. Brian Wall of Winston-Salem moves into third.
In the Freeman’s Auto Center Stadium Stock Series, Jason Tutterow of Mocksville runs headlong into a wreck and finishes a disappointing 16th. Tutterow drops from second in the points down to fifth.
Drew Moffitt of Winston-Salem holds onto the points lead, while Chuck Wall of Clemmons leaps up to second.
This Saturday, it’s the absolute best racing in town for the absolute best price - it’s Sheetz One Dollar Ladies’ Night. The Modifieds will duke it out in the Sheetz 100 with racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.
Gates open at 6:00 for practice, qualifying is at 7:10, and the first race is at 8:00. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
