Brown Continues Hot Streak at Bowman Gray
Lady Luck helps Jason Myers take checkered in second race.

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) After a dry spell earlier in the season, Tim Brown is back in familiar territory: Victory Lane. Saturday night, Brown claimed the checkered for the second week in a row at Bowman Gray Stadium.
            Brown, a resident of Rural Hall, was the fastest qualifier, placing him on the pole for the start of the first 25-lapper for the GMAC Insurance Modified Series. Starting right beside of him was Defending Champion Burt Myers of Walnut Cove.
            The #83 of Brown shot out into the lead immediately and held on all 25 laps to take the win. Myers gave Brown a few good shots to the bumper as the race went along, but it was nothing that “the Rocket” couldn’t handle.
            “The car is good now. I finally figured out what it liked - being a new car,” said Brown, who had struggled along with his crew to adapt to their new chassis this season. “We outran Burt. It was a good night.”
            Although Burt finished second in the first race, younger brother Jason didn’t fare as well. Losing control during his qualifying lap, Jason Myers ended up taking a provisional starting spot towards the rear of the field. “We just tried a little too hard qualifying. If it’d stuck, we would have been on the pole,” said Jason.
            He battled his way up to a 14th place finish in the first race, and that’s when his luck suddenly changed. The “Madhouse Scramble” sent Jason Myers to the front of the field for the start of the second race.

After a lot of work to his #4 car, Jason led all 25 laps of the second race to take his first victory of the 2011 season. “We really tore this thing up qualifying,” said Myers about his car. “She wasn’t great the second race, but she was good enough to stay up front.”
            “That’s what makes this place so special,” said Myers. “You can come over here, have bad luck, bad luck, bad luck - and then just a little bit of good luck comes your way, and you can take advantage of it.”
            Brad Robbins of Winston-Salem and Chris Fleming of Mount Airy each took their turns applying the pressure to Jason Myers, but neither were successful. Fleming finished second and Robbins third.
            Gary Ledbetter of Lexington won the first 20-lapper for the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series – Ledbetter’s third win in three weeks. Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem slipped a nose to the inside of Ledbetter on several occasions but couldn’t complete the pass. Brewer finished second.
            In the second Sportsman race, Taylor Branch of Lewisville sent race leader Derek Stoltz of Walkertown into the guard rail as the two battled for position. Branch went on to win. Gary Ledbetter finished second, almost winning both ends of the double-header.
            David Sumner of Trinity took the checkered in the 20-lap contest for the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. John McNeal of Winston-Salem and Darren Cotner of King finished in second and third.
            In the Freeman’s Auto Center Stadium Stock Series, Jason Keaton of Mocksville and Robert Collins of Winston-Salem each brought home a win.
