Points Leaders Prepare for Double Points Night at Bowman Gray
(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Pulses will be pounding this Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium. Double the normal points will be awarded in each race, making this one of the most important tests on the road to the championship.
The GMAC Insurance Modified Series will have the extra added challenge that the Stadium’s 100-lappers bring: The starting lineup will be determined by random draw and the double-file restart cone will be making appearances.
Burt Myers of Walnut Cove hopes to keep his recent hot streak going. In the last event, Myers qualified a disappointing 18th but fought his way up to a 10th place finish in the first race and a victory in the second race. He stays on top of the points ladder.
Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem wasn’t as fortunate. Brown was involved in a wreck early in the race, damaging his car. His crew worked feverishly to get him back in racing condition, but they were unable to keep him on the lead lap. He finished 18th and 13th in the two races, hurting him in the points standings. He lost 20 points to Burt Myers and drops down from second to third in the points rankings.
The same wreck that ruined Brown’s night also took a toll on Jason Myers of Walnut Cove. The younger of Myers brothers finished 19th and 15th, taking him from third in the points down to seventh.
But bad luck for Jonathan Brown and Jason Myers gave an opportunity to Tim Brown of Rural Hall. The eight-time champ finished ninth and second, boosting him up from third to second in the points.
In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Tommy Neal of Walkertown continues to fall in the points standings. At one time, Neal was the top competitor and seemed to be unbeatable. But with his luck turning sour, Neal finished 14th in last event’s Sportsman 60-lapper. Neal drops down from second in the points to fifth.
Kyle Edwards of King continues to lead the way in the points standings, with Bryant Robertson of Lexington moving up to second in Tommy Neal’s absence. Robbie Brewer of Winston-Salem slides up to third in the points.
John McNeal of Winston-Salem finished second on Saturday, keeping him on the top of the ladder for the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. Matt Cotner of Rural Hall maintains his second place points standing.
In the Freeman’s Auto Center Stadium Stock Series, Jason Tutterow of Mocksville finished eighth to maintain his points lead. Jordan Fleming of Mount Airy finished third, boosting him from fourth up to second in the points.
This Saturday, racing is back with a vengeance. It will be the Great Clips 100 $1 Ladies’ Night. Women are admitted for only one buck to see the Great Clips 100, plus racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.
Gates open at 6:00 for practice, qualifying is at 7:10, and the first race is at 8:00. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
