Brown, Bohn Split Victories at Bowman Gray
Rookie Bohn makes history with first ever win.

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) A veteran and a rookie were both smiling as they left Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night.
            Eight-time Champion Tim Brown of Rural Hall grabbed the checkered flag in the first race for the GMAC Insurance Modified Series. In the second Modified race, newcomer Danny Bohn of Huntersville claimed his historic first victory at the Stadium.
            Brown qualified on the pole and jumped out to the lead as the green flag fell in the first race. But during the opening laps, Brown knew that something was amiss with his #83 race car.
            “We looked like we were going to have a really good shot at winning the race, and then the motor started missing and cutting off,” said Brown. “I got really nervous thinking that we weren’t going to pull the deal off.”
            Defending Champion Burt Myers was following closely behind Brown, looking to capitalize on any mistake and claim the win. Brown received tap after tap to his bumper from Myers as they went around the turns. But Brown’s Stadium experience paid off, allowing him to defend his lead and take the win.
            “It’s always really good to get that first win of the season. It gets the team rallied around you,” said Brown.
Burt Myers finished in second, with brother Jason Myers taking third.

            Starting on the pole for the second race was rookie Danny Bohn. Although it was just his second time competing at the Stadium, the #59 machine looked to be in prime shape. Bohn’s first hurdle was grabbing the lead when the green flag waved. “The initial start was going to be the biggest thing – clearing the guy on the outside,” said Bohn, who was able to secure the top spot with Brad Robbins of Winston-Salem on the outside.
            Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem moved past Robbins up to second and began putting the pressure on Bohn. “I really figured once I got to second that I could get past Danny,” said Brown. “I figured I was faster than Danny, but he had his stuff hooked up – I was impressed.”
            “The last two weeks I’ve talked to Jonathan a lot, and I thought he would run me clean,” said Bohn. “He was a little faster in the center there for a while. I slowed down my entry and picked up the throttle a little earlier - and I started to pull away from him at the end.”
            Brown delivered a few strong shots to the bumper of Bohn but was unable to steal the lead away – perhaps because of brake issues the team was facing. “That’s one thing that hurt me trying to get around Danny. I had a lot of pedal, but no stopping power,” said Brown.
            It was Bohn’s first win ever at the Stadium – making him the 118th driver to win a featured event in the 63-year history of Bowman Gray Stadium.
            In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Tommy Neal of Walkertown won the first 20-lap race. Taylor Branch of Lewisville and Kevin Neal of Walkertown finished in second and third.
            Barry Edwards of Pinnacle took the checkered the second Sportsman race. Brother Kyle Edwards of King finished right behind him in second. Derek Stoltz of Walkertown came in third.
            John McNeal of Winston-Salem brought home the victory in the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series race. Billy Gregg of Winston-Salem and Matt Cotner of Rural Hall finished in second and third.
            In the Freeman’s Auto Center Stadium Stock Series, Drew Moffitt of Winston-Salem won the first 15-lap race. Stephen Sanders, who initially finished second, was disqualified due to failing post-race technical inspection.
            The second Stadium Stock race was unable to be completed due to late night rain storms and will be postponed until next week.
