Myers Fights His Way to Victory at Bowman Gray
New motor gives the #1 car the horsepower to win.

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Burt Myers had his work cut out for him on Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium.
            It was the Farm Bureau Insurance 100 for the Farm Bureau Insurance Modified Series – and starting lineup was determined by random draw. Myers, a resident of Walnut Cove, drew 12th. But with the double-file restarts, Myers was able to climb his way up to the front to take the checkered.
            Lee Stimpson of Lewisville drew the pole for the 100-lapper, with Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg drawing the outside front row for his start. As the green flag waved, Jeffreys shot out into the lead. “You never know what’s going to happen up there on the outside pole, but we got the lead,” said Jeffreys.
            Jeffreys was challenged from the outside by Dean Ward of Winston-Salem during the first double-file restart. Jeffreys held on to the lead only to have Burt Myers pull up beside him on the next double-file restart.
            Myers and Jeffreys battled briefly, but Myers ducked back into second place to avoid being caught on the outside row. Myers began delivering a few taps to the rear of Jeffreys, but the #77 car held on to his position.
            When the third caution brought out another double-file restart, Myers had another chance to try and face Jeffreys side-by-side. The two fought fiercely this time, with an extended battle that lasted for nearly two laps.
            “I knew I had enough car and I knew I could get it done. But you’re at the other guy’s mercy when you’re on the outside of him. Lee did a good job of holding his line and he didn’t run me dirty,” said Myers.
            “I was able to make the pass, and truth be known – I probably couldn’t have made that pass with the motor I had in before now,” said Myers about his brand new Ford Roush-Yates motor.
            Myers held on to the lead through two more double-file restarts: one that gave Jeffreys a chance to try and reclaim the lead and another restart against Jonathan Brown of Kernersville on the outside.
            Jonathan Brown finished in second with Randy Butner of Pfafftown finishing in third.
            In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Derek Stoltz of Walkertown won the first race, with Gary Ledbetter of Lexington and Scott Hall of Walkertown finishing in second and third. In the second Sportsman race, Tommy Neal of Walkertown took the checkered, with Kenny Bost of Kernersville claiming second and Daniel Beeson of Kernersville coming in third.
            David Sumner of Trinity brought home the victory in the 20-lap race for the 104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. Joseph “Bobo” Brown of Winston-Salem, who battled hard with Sumner for the lead, finished in second. Johnny Arnder of Mount Airy claimed third.
            In the Time Warner Cable Stadium Stock Series, Dale Barneycastle of Mocksville won the first 15-lap race, with Gary Brewer of Germanton taking checkered in the second 15-lapper.
